The VFW of Cameron, Texas has successfully sponsored a Country Music Show for some time now. In fact The Star Of Texas Jamboree has become so popular it came to producer A.T. Shuffield that the show should be expanded. And with just a little encouragement from gospel singer Julie Smith of Cameron, the idea of a Gospel and Christian Music Show was born. The show will run on the Friday night preceeding the Country Show each month.
With much hard work the two set at the task and, again, successfully launched the first
Star of Texas Gospel Jamboree on Friday night, June 13th featuring the newly popular Gospel Quartet, "The Messengers" (by the way lead singer for this group is Rockdale's own, Scott Williams). The Messengers performed the second half of the show and blessed the audience for an hour of inspiring four part harmony and performed new and old favorites including "The Lighthouse", "Crimson River", "Dig A Little Deeper" and much more.
Duets, groups, and soloists from different parts of Central Texas made a smashing hit for the first half of the kick off show delighting the audience with every type of Christian music from Country to Contemporary, from Traditional to Worship and topping it off with a perfect sprinkling of humor.
Performers consisted of:
Julie Smith of Cameron, Gospel Singer and Recording Artist, member of The First Baptist Church, Cameron, and co-owner of Texas Best Overhead Door in Cameron.
